We Tried The Lunch Set
During our visit, we ordered the Crab Pomodoro and upgraded to the Chargrilled Sirloin Steak, along with the accompanying Salad & Chicken Gyoza.
Crab Pomodoro ($9.90++ Lunch Set)

The Crab Pomodoro is a comforting pasta dish coated in a tomato-based pomodoro sauce that comes with a gentle kick of spice. While it isn’t overly spicy, the hint of chilli adds an extra layer of flavour that keeps the pasta from tasting one-dimensional.
The crispy soft-shell crab is the highlight of the dish. It was hearty, well-fried and retained a satisfying crunch without feeling greasy. More importantly, it didn’t have the fishy smell or aftertaste that soft-shell crab can sometimes have, allowing the natural sweetness of the crab to come through with every bite.
Overall, it’s a well-balanced pasta that’s flavourful enough for those who enjoy a little heat, while still remaining approachable for most diners.
Chargrilled Sirloin Steak (+$3.50 Upgrade)

For just $3.50 more, the Chargrilled Sirloin Steak upgrade is well worth considering.
The steak arrived beautifully cooked with a tender, juicy centre and a nicely charred exterior that added plenty of flavour. It was cooked to perfection during our visit and paired wonderfully with the rich mushroom sauce, which complemented the beef without overpowering it.
Served alongside crispy shoestring fries, it’s a satisfying option if you’re looking for something a little more indulgent than the standard lunch set.
Chicken Gyoza
Every lunch set also comes with a serving of Chicken Gyoza, and it certainly wasn’t an afterthought.
The gyoza was succulent, with a juicy filling wrapped in a lightly crisp exterior. Dipping it into the accompanying chilli oil sauce added just the right amount of spice and fragrance, making it a great appetiser before digging into the mains.
We Also Tried The Biscoff Rush & Elderflower Matcha Tonic
Besides the weekday lunch set, we also tried two of Benjamin Barker Recreation Club Café’s signature beverages.
Biscoff Rush – $8.50++

The Biscoff Rush is a rich coffee-based drink blended with the familiar caramelised flavour of Biscoff biscuits. It’s smooth, indulgent and a great pick if you enjoy sweeter café beverages.
Elderflower Matcha Tonic – $8.50++

For something lighter and more refreshing, the Elderflower Matcha Tonic combines earthy matcha with fragrant elderflower and sparkling tonic water. The result is a crisp, slightly floral drink that’s especially refreshing on a warm afternoon.

Our Verdict
The $9.90++ weekday lunch set is easily one of the better-value café lunch promotions we’ve seen recently.
With a starter included, satisfying mains and the option to upgrade to a Chargrilled Sirloin Steak for just $3.50 more, it’s a deal worth checking out if you’re looking for an affordable weekday lunch.
To round off your meal, we’d also recommend pairing it with either the Biscoff Rush if you’re after a richer coffee drink, or the refreshing Elderflower Matcha Tonic if you prefer something lighter and more refreshing.
